The History of OTMA
OTMA was an acronym used by the Romanov sisters to when signing letters. (O-Olga, T-Tatiana, M-Maria, A-Anastasia)
The daughters of Tzar Nicholas II were the last people to hold the royal title of Grand Duchess in Russia. They are famous for their captivating, luxurious lives and remembered for their shocking and tragic deaths.
Although the girls have struck the media's interest with their beauty and aesthetic, they often serve as mere decorations in the stories of Nicholas, Alexandra, and Tsarevich Alexei. It is rare to see each sister shine in the spotlight with their unique personalities and values. Changing this has become the mission statement as we create "O.T.M.A." the short film. |
OTMA grew up as close as sisters could be. Even in exile during the Russian Revolution, their one wish was to remain together as a family. Olga and Tatiana were known as the "big pair," while Maria and Anastasia were known as the "little pair." Their daily lives included studies, charity work, religious practices, and household chores.
During the First World War, Olga and Tatiana served as nurses alongside their mother. Maria and Anastasia would take trips to wartime hospitals and visit wounded soldiers. Tensions rose in the country regarding Nicholas' power, and the Tzar abdicated the thrown March 15th, 1917. The same year, the Romanov Family faced house arrest.

The Family faced exile in late 1917 and, without notice, were executed by gunfire and stabbing by the Bolsheviks on July 17th, 1918. Their deaths were shocking and seen as an act of cruelty worldwide.
Following the death of OTMA, many people made false claims to be a surviving sister. The most popular is Anna Anderson, who claimed to be Anastasia. The remains of all the Romanov children have been found and identified, proving any survival claim false. As of 2022, Olga, Tatiana, and Anastasia have been properly buried alongside their parents. Maria and Alexei still await burial.
